The day that you set the date for your wedding is going to be one of the most exciting days of your life. The second most exciting day, is the day that you start the process of shopping for that dream wedding dress, the one you’ve had in mind since you were a little girl.
For modern brides, the process begins with an online search. Gone are the days of walking from one bridal shop to the next, in search of that perfect gown. These days, you can do a Google search of bridal boutiques in your area and browse through the near endless selection of dresses. While you are looking around for the perfect gown, you need to be realistic with your expectations, which means you should decide and stick to a budget.
After collecting a couple of designs that you really love, you can start making appointments with bridal boutiques and experience the magic of trying on wedding gowns.
Trying on the Dresses
A dress might look drop dead gorgeous in a photo and you might think that it is The One, only to try it on and suddenly realise that it is absolutely not how you imagined it would look.
While doing some window shopping online is great for getting an idea of what is out there, you have to try on the dress and see how it fits your body and if it looks as stunning as you imagined it would.
To make the process a little less stressful and a lot more fun, you should bring along a couple of your best friends or close relatives, about don’t bring too many, as everyone is going to have an opinion of their own and that could make choosing the dress a lot more complicated than it needs to be.
Buy your dress
When the day of your wedding creeps closer, you don’t want to leave the dress or any changes to the last minute.
Ideally, you should buy your dress at least 8 months before your wedding. This will give you more than enough time to make sure that the dress can be altered, if need be, well before the time.
Buying your dress so many months in advance is also important if you need to pay the dress off.
Get your shoes, undergarments, and accessories
The biggest stress around your outfit is going to be securing the right dress. After that, you will need to complete your look by finding the right shoes, the right undergarments and the best accessories. These finishing touches should be done around 5 months before the big day.
Depending on where you are buying your dress, you can expect to have between 2 to 3 fittings in the run up to your wedding day. During these fittings you should bring along your shoes and accessories to get an idea about how all the bits and pieces will come together. This is also the time when various alterations will be done, and by the final fitting, around 3 weeks before your wedding, you will be able to see exactly what you will look like on your wedding day.
